Crestwood Trail

1.3 mi
easy
spring, summer, fall

This scenic one-mile loop trail follows the banks of Little Cottonwood Creek through an outstanding natural area with splendid views of the Wasatch Mountains. The trail surface is loose gravel but is very wide, well graded, and easy to walk on. This trail is suitable for children and adults of all ages and skill levels.

The Trailhead

Crestwood Trail is located at Crestwood Park at 1655 East and Siesta Drive in Cottonwood Heights (40.613528,-111.843914). To reach the park from I-215:

Take Exit 8 for 2000 East/Highland Drive.
Drive south on 2000 East/Highland Drive for 2.1 miles.
Turn right (west) onto Creek Road.
Drive west 0.3 miles on Creek Road to the junction with Siesta Drive.
Turn right onto Siesta Drive.
Continue 0.8 miles to Crestwood Park on the right.
Neighborhood access is available on the north side of the park via a steep dirt trail that begins near 1749 Parkridge Drive (40.61680,-111.84226).

The Hike

From the parking area, begin walking north toward the park. Stay on the sidewalk that traverses the eastern edge of the park, following alongside an access road. A bridge provides access across Little Cottonwood Creek to where the loop begins. Turn right and begin following the gravel pathway through the trees and alongside the river.

Soon the trail emerges from the trees and into a grassy field with excellent views of the Wasatch Mountains. A few minor ups and downs are encountered as it winds in and out of the trees at the edge of an open field. Follow the trail as it bends north and then back west near the top of the field.

Continue hiking south until the trail loops back around, passing by a small footbridge that provides access to Crestwood Park. Shortly beyond the footbridge the trail completes the loop near the bridge you used earlier to access the trail. Each lap around the loop is approximately 1.0 mile.
