Miller Nature Park

Tucked away along the banks of Red Butte Creek, Miller Nature Park and Bird Refuge is a great place to go for a short walk through a pristine natural environment. A trail follows along both sides of the creek with two picturesque bridges. The trail surface is dirt and gravel but is well maintained and makes for easy walking. This trail is suitable for hikers of all abilities.

Trailhead

Street parking is available at the main entrance to Miller Park at 1708 East 900 South or the south entrance at 1551 Bonneview Drive.

From I-80 in Salt Lake City

Take Exit 125 for 700 East.
Turn north onto 700 East and continue 2.1 miles.
Turn east onto 900 South and continue 1.5 miles to 1708 East.
Park near the gated park entrance on the south side of the road (40.749744, -111.841785).
The Hike

From the north entrance on 900 South, begin hiking down the stairs into Miller Park. A sign is located near the bottom of the stairs with a little history about how the park came to be. From the sign, you can begin hiking down either side of the creek. The trail on the right stays a little higher while the trail on the left gets a little closer to the creek below.

After a short distance, the trail arrives at a beautiful stone bridge spanning Red Butte Creek. Continue hiking beyond the bridge, eventually arriving at another bridge at the south end of the park. You may cross the bridge and return to the north entrance on the opposite side of the creek or continue south.

Continuing south offers two options: you may continue hiking on the main trail a short distance until it ends at Bonneview Drive or continue along Red Butte Creek into an area called Bonneville Glen. Bonneville Glen is private property open to the public, but dogs are not allowed. The trail continues through Bonneville Glen past another bridge and a small waterfall before ending at a parking area at the corner of 1500 East and Bonneview Drive (40.746233, -111.847195).

Return the way you came. Total hiking distance for a loop of the park including Bonneville Glen is just short of one mile.
