Hobble Creek Parkway

The Hobble Creek Parkway is a 4.5-mile paved path that runs from the east side of Springville into lower Hobble Creek Canyon. The lower section runs through a residential neighborhood before arriving at the mouth of the canyon. The upper section winds through a beautiful forest along the banks of Hobble Creek. The trail crosses the creek twice before ending near Rotary Park in Hobble Creek Canyon.

Trailhead

The trailhead for the Hobble Creek Parkway is located at 1784 E. Canyon Road in Springville, UT (40.154045, -111.578920):

Take Exit 260 on I-15 for 400 South in Springville.
Drive east on 400 South for 3.2 miles.
Turn right onto Canyon Drive and continue 0.7 miles to the trailhead on the right.
A small park with off-street parking and picnic facilities is located at the start of the trail.

Some users may wish to skip the first part of the trail that travels along Canyon Drive before entering the canyon. Several other access points exist by driving further east on Canyon Drive. Park along the road and begin hiking at any time, or continue up Hobble Creek Canyon to another trailhead and parking area around the midway point on the trail (40.157137, -111.531020).

The Hike

From the trailhead on Canyon Drive, begin walking east towards the mountains. The first section of the trail passes through a residential neighborhood before arriving at a large flood control basin at the mouth of the canyon. For those wishing to avoid the residential part of the walk, this is a good place to start. Follow the trail as it skirts around the north end of the basin before entering the forest.

Continue up the canyon as the trail winds in and out of dense groves of scrub oak and maple trees. Two picturesque bridges span Hobble Creek along the way, and numerous park benches and interpretive signs give walkers a chance to stop and take in the scenery. After about 3.5 miles, the trail crosses the highway at a crosswalk. Use caution as traffic may be moving fast on the winding canyon road.

About 1 mile beyond the crosswalk, the trail ends near Rotary Park (40.164008, -111.501431). Return the way you came. Total walking distance is approximately 9.0 miles round trip.
