Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile

2 miles RT
easy
year round

The Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile is a great walking path for beginners. The trail is paved, level, and ends at a beautiful, covered bridge over the Provo River. The trail and bridge were originally dedicated as part of the 2002 Winter Olympics to encourage people to get outside and be healthy. This trail is suitable for hikers of all skill levels and is wheelchair and stroller friendly.

Trailhead

The Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile begins at the Southfield Park in Heber City. The trailhead can be reached from Main Street in Heber City:

Turn west onto 100 South/Midway Lane.
Drive 0.9 miles to the parking area on the left side of the road at Southfield Park (40.506673, -111.430452).
The Hike

Begin walking on the wide, paved path at the east end of the Southfield Park north parking area. A small sign next to the trail indicates the start of the Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile. The first half of the trail passes by farm fields with excellent views of Mount Timpanogos and the Wasatch Mountains.

Beyond the halfway point, cross a small bridge over Spring Creek. After you cross the bridge, the scenery changes to aspen and fir trees.

After one mile, the trail arrives at the Legacy Bridge over the Provo River (40.507240, -111.449823). A sign on the far side of the bridge marks the official end of the Midway Lane Gold Medal Mile. The covered bridge is a nice shady spot to cool down on a hot day before returning to the trailhead.

Those wishing to walk further may continue on the paved path all the way into Midway where it eventually becomes a city sidewalk. Round trip walking distance from Southfield Park to the Legacy Bridge and back is 2.0 miles.
